TRAVEL DEMAND MODELLING

Traffic and transportation data almost always deals with human behaviour, an inherently difficult area to model and forecast. Most of the techniques related to advanced statistics, mathematics, topology and behavioural modelling. This is one area where highly specialised software are used. LASA’s traffic and transportation cell benefits a great deal by having a suitably manned department with requisite software and expertise. Following are some of the major objectives under this set of activities.

  • Provision a rational basis for evaluating proposed transportation system improvements in areas of purely urban and regional dimensions.
  • Development of computer-based models and supporting databases for the above.
  • Ensuring reliable forecasts that considers in an unbiased manner all mode alternatives
  • Experience in in-house model development/application systems
  • Provision of services in the areas of:
    • Development of Demand Model
    • Training on Forecast Model Theory and Model Application Procedures
